"Miss World Trinidad and Tobago Aché Abrahams is greeted by a crowd of jubilant supporters outside the Piarco International Airport. She’s hugged, kissed and celebrated among the crowd, some of whom gathered from as early as 4 pm."
A footballer from Ivory Coast was subjected to a mob attack.
He plays for Jawahar Mavoor club in Sevens Football tournament.
The Footballer was chased assaulted & subjected to racial abuse by the spectators and beaten up by a crowd in Kerala's Malappuram district during a Sevens football tournament held in the region.
The Mob also threw stones at the footballer.
In a video that went viral, a group of people are seen beating up the footballer Dairrassouba Hassane Junior in an open ground.

Meanwhile, a man wearing a white t-shirt is seen shielding the Hassane from the blows. The man is also seen talking to the irate people later. The footballer is then seen leaving through a gate.
The incident took place after the footballer allegedly kicked one of the men, India Today said in a report.
However, the footballer said in his complaint that the crowd had racially abused him. The Areekode police have recorded Hassane's complaint in connection with the matter.
Quote
“The spectators called me an ‘African monkey’ and ‘black cat’, and pelted stones which hit my head. I was attacked because of my skin colour, my race and I have been insulted,” The News Minute quoted Hassane Junior.
Dairrassouba Hassane Junior was recruited to participate in sevens football, a variant of football popular in Kerala featuring seven players on each team, often played on smaller pitches than traditional football fields. Football clubs frequently enlist semi-professional foreign players, predominantly from West Africa, for major tournaments.
Most of these organised competitions are regulated by the Sevens Football Association (SFA). Hassane was representing the football club, Jawahar Mavoor, which was participating in the tournament.
As this story unfolds it raises more questions than provides answers.
How could this happen and no one notice
If people noticed something odd, why did they look the other way
If they reported suspicious occurences, why wasn't anything done?
How is this tied to the demise of another family member years prior in Tobago (allegedly by drowning)
Unspeakable horror

IF A piercing gunshot caused her fatal head wound, it was this country’s ever-worsening culture of silence that helped bury her remains for years.
Hannah Mathura’s death is a mystery. There are many other aspects of this gruesome case that remain unknown. Notwithstanding a frenzy of police action this week, which has opened doors and windows into her previously-shut home at Valsayn, it is likely there are facts we will never know.

Yet, the extreme nature of this highly unusual situation masks a simple truth: evil lives among us. And by this we do not refer just to what has been stalking the residents of Butu Road, but also the nation at large.
It is a nation that has moved away from a situation where horrific crimes used to bring us to a standstill. Now, a way of life in which the maxim “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” prevails.
There have been claims, made anonymously by community members, suggesting screams and noises were routinely heard from the house; a foul odour was detected at one stage; a beating witnessed; even what seemed like a gunshot was once heard.
To this must be added the statements suggesting attempts were made to alert the police and the Children’s Authority; some have claimed officials did turn up, but asked the wrong questions.
And then, years of nothing.
Few have asked about the role of other authorities. For example, by law there should be a record of every child in this country. And by law, children of a certain age should be in school.
Whether and how this child slipped through the cracks of our education system before her eventual fate is worth querying.
And not just her.
At this stage, we cannot even say with complete confidence how many children lived in the house, given the alarming implications of this week’s find.
That some of the siblings reportedly progressed to university only worsens the sense of some profound failing.
Quote
But it is all too easy to cast stones at the authorities, relatives and neighbours.
Far more difficult to grapple with is the way we have been, as a society, silenced by fear and by a lack of confidence in the authorities.
The killing of witnesses, tit-for-tat murders, police corruption, the vagaries of a justice system in which an allegation can condemn someone to jail for years before a case comes to court – it all adds up to mouths staying shut.
If, in this small nation of 1.4 million, we are no longer our brother’s keeper, that is because trauma, dysfunction and a feeling of helplessness now prevail in the face of unspeakable horror.
The strengthening of trade and diplomatic ties between Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana continues as Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon and her delegation met with Ghanian officials.

Former head of the public service and diplomat Reginald Dumas died on Thursday night (March 7th) at the Scarborough General Hospital. He was aged 88.
His Daughter Sonja said:
Quote
"He leaves a legacy of integrity and honesty that I hope to follow as long as I’m on the planet, and perhaps beyond. He is my ancestor now, looking down on me, guiding me. For many, he was a great diplomat, a great orator and great political analyst. He fought tirelessly for good governance. His generosity touched countless people, as did his wit (which was often acerbic). He wasn’t in any way perfect. He was more stubborn than ten mules put together and could dismiss you with a short, tart phrase when he’d had enough of what he thought was nonsense. But his heart was huge and his mind brilliant."
His Good Friend Former Independent Senator and renowned criminologist, Professor Ramesh Deosaran Said this about Mr. Dumas:
Quote
"When he called, he would say “Ramesh, what you think about this?” I would really miss that voice and him—his candour and intellectual honesty in a place where politics is widely accepted as having its own morality. If only his example could be followed.
Slowly speaking and quite humbly, he would say, let’s look at the other side. And I got educated that way. He also educated the country through the media. Though not inside the noisy political arena, he had shrewd insights into our politics and sometimes put the arrogant and politically mischievous in their proper place.
GRIEVING BROTHER: The brother of Jaheim Diaz is held back by police officers on Tuesday afternoon when he came to view Diaz’s body after he had been gunned down at the corner of Duke and Charlotte streets in Port of Spain

The Brazen killing happened in broad daylight in the heart of Port Of Spain on a bustling busy street and left many shaken and scared.
His killing has since sent chills down the spines of other vendors who knew him, and has left some who shop on and traverse Charlotte Street shaken, emotional and angry at the brazen and senseless killing.

President of the Charlotte Street Vendors Association Crystal Daniels said with two murders back-to-back, the situation is worrying. “The politicians and the religious groups are too quiet. There were two consecutive murders, back-to-back. Last Saturday was a murder, and this week was another murder in broad daylight,” she said.
She added, “This situation bothers me. It is worrying to see that this young fella was doing something positive, not just for himself but because of his little brothers and sisters, and it’s because of the particular community you come from that they kill you. There are so many black young fellas wasting so much time, and too many of them are involved in senseless killings all because someone is not from your area,” she said.
The Express visited Charlotte Street on Wednesday, and it was business as usual at the lower end. However, upper Charlotte Street, where the killing occurred, was a virtual ghost town.
A fruit vendor who sold fruits from a van on upper Charlotte Street mere metres from where Diaz was killed said he was not willing to speak to the media. He was visibly shaken and emotional about the killing. “Don’t ask me anything. Go and ask the police commissioner, or ask (Prime Minister Dr Keith) Rowley. Don’t ask me one single thing about nothing; this killing is too ridiculous. All of you are asking the wrong people these questions,” the vendor said.
While some on Social Media immediately assumed the victim was a "miscreant deserving of his fate" Others who knew him and of him gave a different perspective:
When Jahiem Diaz was shot and killed on Charlotte Street on Tuesday, he was selling water to provide for his younger siblings.
Quote
Melba John, who knew Diaz, said he (Diaz) took up the challenge some years ago to care for his young siblings.
“Right after Jahiem’s mother had her baby, she died of cancer, and he took up the challenge to mind his little brother, and he did a very good job. He took care of that child as if it were his own. He never left that child anywhere, and he provided for that child. Now what is going to happen? There is so much I want to say about this, but I am too emotional,” John said.
Business owners and regular visitors to Charlotte Street voiced their dismay at the direction things are going
Sandra Wells, 70, who frequently spends time liming with friends on Charlotte Street, said she was concerned about the crime situation.
Quote
“I retired and I live by myself, so I do come out on Charlotte Street every day to play Play Whe and talk with a few friends because I have nothing to do. But this killing really dampens things a bit. I am very concerned about it because I love to come out and take a little breeze,” Wells said.
A business owner who did not want to be named said this country is going down a dangerous road.
Quote
“We are going down a dangerous road as a society. This is our capital city, and these brazen killings should not occur like this. Killers feeling confident enough to kill like this tells you that we are in trouble. Businesses will continue to be in trouble once these kinds of crimes continue,” the business owner said. Chad Felix, who has operated an appliance store on Charlotte Street for over 20 years, said, “This Charlotte Street is not like long ago. Charlotte Street used to be a busy and popular place to shop, but over the years, things changed. It progressed from criminals snatching bags to murder. Today is a really low-energy day. If you look around, you will see how dead the place is.”

St Lucia opposition leader, Kamla agree to form regional opposition group

St Lucia’s Opposition Leader Allan Chastanet says a plan is being developed to establish a single body of opposition leaders from countries across the Caribbean.
Chastanet was speaking at the United National Congress’ (UNC) fourth Anti-crime Town Hall meeting at the SWAHA Hindu College in Sangre Grande on Monday night.
As he addressed those who turned up at the meeting, Chastanet said the idea was posed by UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, whom he described as a visionary.
“We are going to take this voice now to the region and form a collective group of leaders of the oppositions and to make sure that the voices of the leaders of the opposition in the Caribbean region is heard by the (Caribbean Development Bank) CDB, by the World Bank and by Caricom and we’re no longer gonna be denied the voice in representing all the people who did not vote for the government and to make sure that that voice is listened to and given a seat at the table.”

#TRINIDAD: As of February 14th, high-resolution satellite imagery has detected the possible oil slick travelling approximately 63 nautical miles, or 118 kilometres, west-northwest, which has now reached 30 kilometres out of Trinidad and Tobago’s Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ).
Based on the current trajectory of the possible oil slick due to prevailing winds and ocean currents, the coastline of #Grenada is not under any threat. At this time, no oil/oil-like substance has made it on Tobago’s west or northern coastlines.
