The U.N. General Assembly has adopted a draft resolution that unequivocally condemns the trafficking of enslaved Africans and the transatlantic slave trade as the most inhumane and enduring injustice against humanity.
The Resolution was first introduced by South Africa in 2021
THE RESOLUTION INCLUDED ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE GENDER VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS
“The Resolution states:
"Acknowledging also the exceptional gendered nature of the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialized chattel enslavement, in which African women and girls were systematically subjected to sexual violence, forced reproduction, domestic servitude and gender-specific forms of exploitation, and which rendered them uniquely vulnerable to multiple and aggravated forms of racial, sexual and economic domination, while also acknowledging their central role in sustaining families, cultures, resistance movements and abolitionist struggles under conditions of extreme coercion"
Strong recognition of the crimes committed against women during slavery. Recently adopted CSW70 stress importance of reparatory justice, the specifically recognizes women and girls of African Descent among others.
