LEADERSHIP IS NOT ABOUT BEING LOUD AND AGGRESSIVE AND DISRESPECTFUL.

IT IS ALSO NOT ABOUT RETREAT AND BEING REACTIVE, WIMPY, TENTATIVE, REACTIVE OR COMPLIANT IN THE FACE OF FUKRY AND NOT PUSHING BACK FOR FEAR OF LOSING ONE'S PRIVILEGE, AND PUTTING SELF-INTERESTS BEFORE NATINAL INTERESTS

Contact a hotline or helpline in Trinidad and Tobago for free, confidential support

Whether you're experiencing a mental health crisis or you're worried about a loved one's mental health, free help is available to you. In Trinidad and Tobago, there are 6 helplines that support with a range of mental health or behavioral health concerns.

Feeling hesitant to reach out is completely normal. Knowing what to expect can help you feel more comfortable.

What is a helpline or hotline?

Helplines, also known as hotlines or crisis lines, exist to provide free, confidential help to anyone in need of emotional support. Some helplines offer their services over the phone, and others over text message or chat. Many are available 24/7.

What kind of support do helplines offer?

Helpline responders support you by listening to you, helping you understand your emotions better, and working with you on a plan forward. Having a plan about what to do next can help you feel more in control.

If I contact a helpline, who will I talk to?

Helplines are usually staffed by counselors and volunteers who are trained in how to support people in an emotional crisis. Some helplines are also run by peers who have a similar life experience to the topic they provide support with.

What issues can I talk to a helpline about?

Helplines are there for anyone who might be in need of free support for mental and behavioral health problems. If you are struggling with something specific, such as suicide, depression, anxiety, or domestic violence, there are often helplines that cater specifically to these issues. You may also be able to contact a helpline related to your demographic, such as helplines that are specifically for teenagers, veterans or the LGBTQ+ community. A lot of helplines provide support for a variety of mental and behavioral health issues, so you can talk with them about anything that is concerning you.

Do helplines and hotlines support with thoughts of suicide?

Suicide prevention hotlines or lifelines are available in many countries. They exist to provide compassionate support to people who are feeling hopeless or are thinking of ending their lives. Suicide hotlines commonly support with all topics, which means they can help with any kind of problem, even if it's not suicide related. They are usually reachable at all hours of the day and night.

Will a helpline talk to me about someone I'm concerned about?

When a friend or family member is going through a mental health crisis, it can be difficult to know how to help. Helplines will offer advice on how you can best support your loved one, whether that be through ways you can support them or outside support they may be able to get.

I'm in Trinidad and Tobago. What hotlines and helplines are available to me?

In Trinidad and Tobago, there are 6 hotlines and helplines that support with a range of topics.

Globally, there are over 2,000 helplines and hotlines, and the support they offer varies across topics and populations. What unites them is their shared aim to support people who are experiencing mental health distress or emotional pain. Helplines are there to assist you in a time of emotional pain, and to support those who may be noticing warning signs of an emotional crisis in those they care about.

Legendary Reggae Artist Jimmy Cliff has passed away at age 81 after a battle with illness.

The twice Grammy Award-winning Jamaican reggae music icon Jimmy Cliff has died at the age of 81, his family announced. Cliff’s wife, Latifa, said he had died “due to a seizure followed by pneumonia” in a post on his official Instagram page.

Cliff had many hits throughout his decades-long career, among them “I Can See Clearly Now,” “The Harder They Come,” “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” and “Vietnam.”

“I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and co-workers who have shared his journey with him,” his wife’s statement said. “To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career. He really appreciated each and every fan for their love.”

She added in a statement also signed by their two children, Lilty and Aken: “Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes.”

REST IN POWER: JAMIL AL-AMIN (FORMERLY KNOWN AS RAP H. BROWN)

Revolutionaries worldwide are mourning the passing of Jamil Al Amin, formerly known as H. Rap Brown, who passed away on 23 November 2025 at the age of 82.

Born in segregated Louisiana, Brown became a central force in the Civil Rights Movement’s turn towards Black Power. He first rose to prominence as the fiery and charismatic Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, where he helped push the organisation and the broader movement towards a more militant stance on Black self-defence and political power.

He later served as the Black Panther Party’s Minister of Justice. His sharp, fearless commentary made him a national figure. He famously declared that “violence is as American as cherry pie,” a line that still echoes through today’s global struggles for justice. It also made him a prime target of the FBI’s COINTELPRO programme, which sought to undermine Black activists.

As you can see from this clip, he did not believe the corrupt American imperialist system could be reformed by simply electing a “good” Black or white official. What the people need is a revolution that overhauls the system and rebuilds it into something that truly serves the masses.

After being incarcerated in the 1970s, he converted to Islam and adopted the name Jamil Abdullah Al Amin. Settling in Atlanta, he became a respected religious and community leader and an imam, speaking out against drugs, crime and exploitation in Black neighbourhoods.

In the early 2000s, US authorities charged and convicted him for the fatal shooting of a sheriff’s deputy and the wounding of another, a case that has long been surrounded by controversy. Another man later confessed, but Al Amin was still sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

The Supreme Court refused to review his appeal, and he ultimately died in prison — another tragic example of the American 'injustice' system. His legacy will be defined not by the false charges but by his dedication to Black liberation, revolutionary advocacy and spiritual leadership.

AS news of the death of popular TV and film producer Danielle Dieffenthaller spread on November 23, her life and work was celebrated by her peers, friends and family.

Her brother and soca artiste Kees Dieffenthaller announced her death via Instagram on November 22.

In the post he said, “We love you, Danny. Rest in eternal peace our beloved sister.”

Dieffenthaller was diagnosed with stage-five renal failure in 2018 and she also had heart surgery last year.

It was reported in February 2024 that there was a potential kidney donor on standby and she needed to raise around CAN$18,000 (TT$93,600). She had also been on dialysis since 2019.

Several of Dieffenthaller’s friends and colleagues extended their condolences to her brother.

Fellow soca artiste Machel Montano said she was a brilliant pioneer and one of TT’s greats.

“Our deepest condolences to your family in this time of loss. May you find some comfort in this time of loss and may her soul rest in eternal peace.”

Soca singer/songwriter Nadia Batson said, “Oh gosh (broken heart emoji). Please accept my condolences, Kesi. Sending love and light to the entire family. I have fond memories of working with her. I’m really sorry to hear this.”

Ravi B and Lady Lava were also among the thousands who sent their condolences to the Dieffenthaller family.

She was known for her work on the long-running local series Westwood Park, Caribbean’s Next Top Model, Hit for Six and Iere Vibe.

Literary organisation Bocas Lit Fest said in addition to an extensive career that included creating ground-breaking television series and music videos for Caribbean artists and producing dramatic, educational, environmental, political, and business projects for local, regional, and international audiences, Dieffenthaller was an advocate, not only for the Caribbean film industry but also for Caribbean voices.

“A friend of Bocas, Danielle made a profound impact through her work with our youth programmes. She approached every workshop with patience, care, and a passion for nurturing young creative voices by giving them the tools to express themselves boldly and creatively.

“Her influence continues to live on in the students she guided and the stories they now have the confidence to tell,” the organisation said in a statement across social media platforms.

The Ansa McAl Foundation and Anthony N Sabga Awards, Caribbean Excellence, said she was its 2019 Arts and Letters Laureate who was a passionate advocate for a strong Caribbean film industry. It said her production of Westwood Park remained a signature achievement in TT film production for its dramatic insight into the lives of middle-class Trinidadians.

“Syndicated in the US and UK, its longevity and viewership were major achievements in a small market where film-making resources were scarce,” the statement said.

A family of seven, including five children, endured a terrifying ordeal after they were tied up and robbed by six armed assailants in their Phillipine home during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Gardener Vijay Ragoonanan said he was beaten during the 20-minute attack, as the bandits threatened to kill him and his family.

    *** ‼️LONG POST ALERT‼️***

To the PNM this Monday morning:

(If you're not PNM, with gratitude I ask that you keep your unfavorable comments to yourself, please.)

Recently, coping with the PNM leadership and its surrogates has been taxing for me. I cannot fathom the complacency, lack of credibility, poor leadership ability, incompetence, plain and simple incertitude that abounds in these perilous times in our nation. We have a convoluted bunch as the executive, where position and power are their only goals, other than creating ways to keep their own power and position.🤦🏽‍♀️ Matters that are simple and straightforward appear to be Twentieth Century Fox productions to them, and I am neither amused nor entertained in any way.

People have been calling me and sending messages through Messenger and WhatsApp, seeking the whereabouts of the Social Media people and asking me for clarification on SOFA and other matters of national concern. I am not it!! Like a few others, I have been laboring on social media on their behalf since 2010. Don't they plan to labor, too? What is all this power and position that they so craved for??

My last nerve was snapped when a member of a foreign national security outfit told me that my Opposition Leader was deemed to be irrelevant, clearly articulating that their assessment of her brought no great value; plain and simple. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TOLD, and it cannot be explained away.

Someone opined that listening to the Opposition Leader is like taking an anesthetic. I have heard many other unfavorable comments and assessments, however, all this is unfair and unnecessary. Unfair, because it's not our fault, and unnecessary, because we really should not have to go through this.

To anyone who says that all the adverse comments of the past years regarding the OL were untrue, I would agree. However, for the evidence that now plays out before our eyes, where can our defense be found??

We just cannot go on this way of unnecessarily long, ineffective, watery and meandering Facebook posts and Press Releases, or late acknowledgement and attention to serious matters in the nation. It is like we have no chart or compass and the UNpatriotiC are having a field day.

So, do we expect to win by default when the UNC has failed?? What are we offering the nation in this new PNM LEADERSHIP?? I saw SOME young and energetic MPs at the Standing Finance Committee meetings this week, in whom we can all place our confidence for the future. I'm looking at Scotty, Manning, Dominic, Hans, Birchwood and Stuarty. They are uncompromised and untainted by the machinations of this executive and its manipulative and confused power. I applaud all of them with pride and eager anticipation. HOWEVER, if the UNC were to collapse TODAY.....WHAT?? We sing "Whispering Hope"?🎶🎵

Don't tell me about time and it only has been six months because we do not need to take a candle in the night to see what is clearly visible in the day. It is not like we do not have political acumen or we cannot read the room that is Trinidad and Tobago. This is an advanced era and our audience expects advanced strategies.

Where is Eric Williams' RALLY FOR ALL that is the PNM??

P.S. I am adding this footnote from the Holy Scriptures: Hebrews 12:6-11

"For whom the Lord loves He chastens,

And scourges every son whom He receives.”

I reserve the right to chasten the PNM. I have worked long and hard for this movement and what I am witnessing is unacceptable.
