VENEZUELA | The Government called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
after the United States bombed Caracas and other cities in the Bolivarian country.
On Saturday, Venezuela’s government called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after the United States bombed Caracas and other cities in the country.
In a letter addressed to the UNSC president, Somalia’s Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, Caracas requested the emergency session to discuss the U.S. acts of aggression against Venezuela. The letter was also delivered to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Venezuela further asked the council to condemn the U.S. aggression against the Venezuelan people and government, demand a “cessation of the armed attacks,” and establish appropriate measures to hold the U.S. administration “accountable for the crimes of aggression” committed on Venezuelan territory.
Venezuela’s request came after “U.S. military forces executed a series of armed attacks” in the early hours of Saturday, which the government of President Nicolas Maduro described as “brutal, unjustified and unilateral.”

UN SECURITY COUNCIL HOLDS EMERGENCY MEETING
The UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting today on the situation in Venezuela. The UN Secretary-General issued a statement at today’s meeting in which he revealed his deep concern “that rules of international law have not been respected” during the U.S. military action in Venezuela.
“Democracy has been undermined. Millions of its people have fled the country. The situation is critical, but it is still possible to prevent a wider and more destructive conflagration,” Guterres added.
He also stressed that international law “provides the foundation for the maintenance of international peace and security.”
“In situations as confused, as complex, as the one we now face, it is important to stick to principles,” he said.
“International law contains tools to address issues such as illicit traffic in narcotics, disputes about resources and human rights concerns,” added Guterres. “This is the route we need to take.”

Delcy Rodríguez is Officially sworn in as acting/interim president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
QuoteDisplay MoreDELCY RODRIQUEZ:
“I come here as Executive Vice President to the Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, to take the oath of office.
I come with sorrow for the suffering inflicted upon the Venezuelan people following an illegitimate military aggression against our homeland. I come with sorrow for the kidnapping of two heroes we hold hostage in the United States of America: President Nicolás Maduro and the First Lady, Cilia Flores.
I come with sorrow, but I must also say that I come with honor to swear in the name of all Venezuelans, I swear by our Liberator, Simón Bolívar, who is the guide and historical beacon for the future of Venezuela, whose liberating blood runs through the veins of all Venezuelans.
I swear by Commander Hugo Chávez, who gave life to millions of Venezuelans and restored their dignity as citizens.
I swear by Jorge Antonio Rodríguez, and in his eyes, I swore by the children of Venezuela, by the girls of Venezuela, by our youth, to guarantee a future for our children.
I swear by my mother, by my brother Jorge, by my nephews, by my family.
I swear on my honor that I will not rest my arm nor my soul until I see Venezuela fulfill its rightful destiny, on the pedestal of historical honor that it deserves as a free, sovereign, and independent nation.
I swear by the people of Venezuela that I will not rest for a single minute until I guarantee the peace of the Republic, the spiritual tranquility of our people, and the economic and social well-being of our people.
And I swear on the foundation laid by our Liberator Father in his speech at Angostura, to guarantee a government that brings social happiness, political stability, and political security.
I swear by Bolívar, I swear by our liberators, I swear by our liberator, and I swear by our brothers and sisters who accompany us and who must join us as one people, from all political sectors of Venezuela, from all social and economic sectors, that we swear as one country to move Venezuela forward in these terrible hours of threats against the stability and peace of the nation.
I swear.”
