Ambient AI scribes listen to clinical encounters and draft documentation, handling some of the administrative burdens that occupy clinicians’ time. After a month of use, self-reports of burden among 186 clinicians decreased from 52% to 39%.The AI scribe was associated with reduced burnout and less time spent documenting after hours. Clinicians also noted that they felt better able to give their undivided attention to patients, with increased capacity to add additional appointments as needed.

The quality improvement study took place across 6 health care systems and included primary care practitioners, attending physicians, and academic faculty. The results suggest that implementing AI to handle administrative tasks may grant clinicians a greater capacity to focus on their patients and protect their professional well-being, the authors wrote.
