The East Port of Spain Development Company Limited (EPOS) has rewarded two Sea Lots residents for the bravery and humanity displayed in rescuing a car accident victim trapped in a burning car, recently.

The Company took note after reading of the men’s positive actions in a report in the Guardian Newspaper.

Deshawn Hamilton, 28, and Terrance David, 43, reportedly sprang into action after witnessing a car accident near Production Avenue on the northbound lane of the Beetham Highway on Thursday September 05, 2024.

The men pulled the victim, a police officer, from the wreckage despite concerns that the vehicle could explode at any moment.

EPOS Chairman Hillan Morean was moved by the men’s actions which he said were deserving of reward.

The men were presented with tokens of appreciation following a meeting at the Company’s Laventille office on Monday September 09, 2024.

EPOS Deputy General Manager, Mrs. Nissa Hosten-James commended the men for their bravery. She said EPOS seizes the opportunity to highlight positive actions and contributions from the often-stigmatized communities of East Port of Spain.

She said: “We are immensely proud of the courage shown by Deshawn Hamilton and Terrance David. Their actions reflect the best of our community spirit—selflessness, bravery, and humanity. At EPOS, we believe in celebrating those who contribute positively, particularly from
communities that are often misrepresented. Their heroism reminds us of the resilience and strength of East Port of Spain.”

David said his hope is for the public to stop stereotyping persons from his community. He said: “(People think) one wrong in Sea Lots is everybody do wrong.”

He said the victim being a police officer did not influence his actions.

“We were not studying that is police. What we were studying is that is a life. It could have been you or me or anybody.”

His message to others was: “Don’t take a life, save a life.”

Hamilton said he, too, wants to see youth steered along the right path.

“There’s a lot of youth, real skilled people in Sea Lots, they just not getting the opportunities.”

At the meeting, the men expressed their hopes and vision for their community and put forward suggestions for various programmes and initiatives to target youth in the community.

Man allegedly drugged wife's dinner then invited more than 50 other men over to rape her

Ms. Gisèle Pélicot asked that her trial be made public so every single piece of shit that raped her will have their name & face shown.

Gisèle Pélicot, a 72-year-old French woman, waived her legal right to anonymity on Monday at the opening of the trial of Dominique Pélicot, 71, and 51 other men.

All are accused of aggravated rape in a trial at the Vaucluse Criminal Court, in Avignon, which is due to last for four months. Twenty of them, including Pélicot, are in custody, while the others remain on bail.

Asked to confirm his name and address at the start of proceedings, Pélicot said: "My home is prison, you know it". Ms Pélicot, a mother-of-three, was supported by her adult children as she stood in the public gallery, listening to evidence.

The family home, in nearby Mazan, allegedly became a crime scene over almost a decade, when streams of men were invited to attack Ms Pélicot. Her husband is said to have used an online platform called coco.fr to contact them between 2011 and 2020.

Detectives have listed a total of 92 rapes committed by 72 men, 51 of whom have been identified. They are all being tried alongside Mr Pélicot , a former employee at French utility company, EDF

The Pélicots shared a large family house and – outwardly – were highly respectable pensioners with family members who visited regularly. Neighbours spoke about them as ‘lovely people’ who held parties around their swimming pool, in a well-kept garden, according to court evidence.

In fact, Pélicot was allegedly a serial rapist who moved his family from greater Paris in 1991, and later allegedly set up the sex ring. It involved advertising on a site for ‘partners’ on an online forum called ‘Without Her Knowing’.

Participants would discuss performing acts on unwitting partners, and then film their depravity, before storing the videos on a USB drive dubbed ‘Abuses’. In Pélicot’s case, the data eventually fell into the hand of police, who confirmed it enabled them to identify the 92 cases of rape. Of the 83 men involved, 51 aged between 26 and 73 were identified and arrested by the police.

Pélicot is said to have sedated his wife by putting tablets of a powerful anxiolytic drug into her evening dinner. He then invited strangers from the online forum into the couple's bedroom, so that his wife could be raped while unconscious. All were told to wash their hands, and not to wear aftershave, so she would not sense they were strangers.

Investigators only learned about the horror in 2020, when Pélicot was arrested in a supermarket in Carpentras for filming up the skirts of other customers.

When police searched his camera phone, and equipment kept at his home, they found all of the abuse images. Alleged rapists involved in the case include civil servants, ambulance workers, soldiers, prison guards, nurses, a journalist, a municipal councillor, and truck drivers.

A fireman accused of raping Ms Pélicot wore his uniform during the attack, one video shows. The fireman's computer contained 728 images of children being sexually abused, say prosecutors.

Some of his accomplices claimed they had no idea the sex was not consensual while one denied it was rape, saying: "It's his wife, he does what he likes with her." The trial continues, and is due to last until December 21.

The heroic actions of two Sea Lots residents, who rescued a man from a burning vehicle, have captured widespread attention and praise.

Sea Lots residents Terrance David and Dshawn Hamilton at the site where they rescued a man from a burning car.

Just after 6 am yesterday near Production Drive, Sea Lots, on the northbound lane of Beetham Highway, a car crashed, flipped and its engine started smoking.

Without hesitation, Dshawn Hamilton and Terrance David jumped into action. Their calls for help at a nearby police impound compound went unanswered and after another man shouted to them that the car could explode at any moment, Hamilton and David managed to pull the man out to safety.

David said although they were warned by onlookers not to intervene, he and his friend were determined to help.

    Image

In interviews with Guardian Media, the two heroes called for an end to the stigmatisation of their community. They said many Sea Lots residents are willing help to anyone in need, reflecting the spirit of goodwill that defines their neighbourhood.

Their courageous efforts not only saved a life but shined a light on positive aspects of the Sea Lots community. They urged the public to recognise and appreciate the kindness and bravery that often go unnoticed.

Hamilton, a small business owner, was the one who pulled the man from the burning car.

Reflecting on the incident, he said danger was not on his mind in the heat of the moment. It was only after rescuing the man he realised the risks involved.

“I never even thought about my life when I jumped into that car. To be real, I just looked in, saw the man moving, and heard someone shouting. I had to struggle to pull him out, and eventually, one or two others came to help. You just don’t know where something like that is going,” he said.

Hamilton explained, “It felt like I had to act, as if I were in a crashed car myself, it’s like the same thing; I would want someone to help me even though it was just a brave moment. But when I jumped out of the car and started thinking about my life, I didn’t really consider it at that moment.”

The accident caused a massive traffic gridlock on the highway.
The injured man was rushed to the hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Maharajh pleaded guilty to the offences on March 21.

A release from the US Embassy said Maharajh, 32 was also ordered to forfeit the firearms and ammunition seized in the case.

The embassy said according to court documents, Maharajh shipped a parcel to London containing a microwave with five concealed pistols inside on June 28, 2022. WHAT WAS REPORTED

After four years of failed negotiations, the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago, yesterday, destroyed a garden occupied by three farmers at #2 Savannah, Diego Martin.

According to Udecott, the three occupiers were there illegally. But the farmers, who cried for help, told Guardian Media that they have been farming there for approximately 50 years.

“I am heartbroken and in sorrow to see our labour for so much years...what this Government is doing to us, it hurting my heart, my heart breaking but I putting it to my maker,” farmer Angela Thomas cried.

She said farmers deserve compensation for the work they have done in the last half-century. She lamented that all their cries for a reprieve fell on deaf ears.

In a press release, Udecott said the demolition was necessary as they prepared for the construction of Phase 2 of Diego Martin Sporting Complex which will complement Phase 1 and strategically provide educational, sporting and recreational facilities for the community, inclusive of a home-work centre; children’s play park; community playfield; two (2) multi-purpose hard courts; a swimming pool; a pavilion; public washrooms; and an electrical kiosk.

If uninterrupted, UdeCOTT said the community would be able to enjoy the use of the homework centre, playfield and hard courts by December 2025.

The corporation noted that its officials approached the farmers in 2020 and alternative parcels of land were found in Tucker Valley to facilitate relocations. The crops were also valued to provide compensation.

They said talks resumed in 2024 and one of the occupiers accepted the offer of a parcel of land and compensation for his crops. But the others requested exorbitant sums of over $1.1 million each.

But farmer Camalyn Salandy said they work hard to cultivate their crops, which were bearing when the demolition began. She accused Udecott of not caring.

“It’s heartbreaking, it’s heartbreaking because at the end of the day we have children to feed from this and this is where our livelihood come from,” Salandy explained.

She added that the land offered was in a deplorable condition and they just could not accept it.

“It have no running water facility there, no electricity and it is very out of our reach to get down there and the condition wasn’t met to our satisfaction,” she claimed.

Salandy added that they were not against the Government’s plan for the land but they deserve better treatment.

She also worried about the future of her 19-year-old son, who she said took up farming to stay away from the bad influences in the community.

The gunman was killed by Secret Service snipers and an AR-style rifle was later recovered. The motive of the attack remains unclear

The gunman who attempted to assassinate former US president Donald Trump at a campaign in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa, a village 40 miles south of where the Butler rally was held, New York Post reported citing sources. He was killed by Secret Service snipers and an AR-style rifle was later recovered.

The motive of the attack that left Trump injured, killed one spectator and critically injured two others remains unclear, according to the Washington Post.

Crooks was planted on a roof of a manufacturing plant more than 130 yards away from the stage at Butler Farm Show grounds, New York Post reported citing sources.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek said it was “surprising” the shooter was able to fire several shots, Post reported.

Republican Party officials said in a statement shortly after the incident that Trump is doing well.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said, “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.”

Earlier, US Secret Service Chief of communications, Anthony Guglielmi, said on X, “The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.”

Trump was shot in the ear at the campaign rally when he was speaking to thousands of supporters in Butler town two days before the Republican National Convention is set to nominate him as the party’s presidential candidate.

Live footage captured a series of shots as Trump ducked below the podium and took cover. Within seconds, US secret service agents covered Trump, as other agents rushed to the stage and did the same. The agents then helped Trump up, as he raised his fist into the air and gave a determined look to the crowd. As he was being escorted out, it appeared that his ear was bleeding and there was blood on his face.

Addressing the nation after the incident, President Joe Biden said there is no place for violence in America. “Look, there is no place in America for this kind of violence. It’s sick. It’s sick. It’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. We cannot allow this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this,” he told reporters.

Ministry launches Yachting Marine Apprenticeship Programme (YMAP)

150 trainees are set to benefit from the 1st cohort of participants under the Yachting Marine Apprenticeship Programme (YMAP).

In a statement, the Ministry of Trade and Industry said Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon said the yacht tourism industry is steadily growing which can benefit Trinidad and Tobago.

Gopee-Scoon was speaking at the launch of the programme on July 10, 2024.

The Ministry said the programme is an initiative of the Trade Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, to strengthen the yachting sector.

Minister Gopee-Scoon described Trinidad and Tobago’s Yachting sector as one that has demonstrated its economic viability over the years with the provision of world-class repair and maintenance services for all types of pleasure crafts.

The Minister articulated that based on global trends, the demand for yachts has gradually expanded over the last few years, owing to rising disposable income, increased focus on leisure or recreational activities and growing preference for luxury tourism.

She went on to state that manufacturers are also focusing on including luxury features in pleasure crafts for improved performance and enhanced customer experience. These developments indicate that the Yachting sector is becoming more sophisticated and Trinidad and Tobago must respond and adapt to these developments internationally and review the country's product offering.

In response to these emerging trends the Minister urged business and individuals that provide yacht repair and maintenance services to modernize and upskill their human resources to be better equipped to repair and maintain these contemporary vessels. She noted that as a result of this, there is a need for greater training and development of staff that work on these vessels to remain relevant and competitive.

She explained that, “globally, the use of apprenticeship training systems are also growing in popularity as a useful tool to support workforce development and create a ready supply of labour to efficiently and effectively fill existing vacancies.”

This view was supported by a Forbes Magazine article in November 2023 which also advocated the implementation of Apprenticeship Systems.

It is against this background, Minister Gopee-Scoon indicated, the Yachting Marine Apprenticeship Programme (YMAP) was conceptualized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, as well as key industry stakeholders.

The YMAP involves training in a range of specialized areas through both in-class and practical sessions. It will also feature a period of industrial attachment whereby trainees will be placed at the facilities of companies within the sector to gain practical training on what was learnt in the classroom.

Additional features of YMAP are that it involves a monthly Stipend Allowance of TT$1,500, as well as the provision of employment opportunities within the sector upon graduating.

The areas of specialization include inter alia: Sail Repair; Marine Air-conditioning and Refrigeration; Marine Plumbing; Renewable Energy Systems for the Boating Industry; Marine Cleaning, Painting and Repairs; Marine Electrical and Electronics; Woodworking for the Marine Industry; Marine Welding and Fabrication and Marine Mechanic. Upon successful completion of the 6 to 9-month Programme, depending on the area of specialization, graduates will receive a Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQ) Level 1 Certificate or a CVQ Level 2 Advanced Certificate.

Professor Emeritus Clement Imbert, ORT, Chairman MIC-IT in his Remarks said that MIC-IT is very proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Trade and Industry on this programme and commended the Ministry for placing priority on such a vital industry among Trinidad and Tobago's youth.

Minister applauded the new trainees, for embracing this opportunity to enhance their skills through this Programme. She encouraged them to be diligent, put their best foot forward, stay the course and they will be successful.

PNM party group chairman hospitalised after alleged beating by members on Thursday

Police at the Moruga Fifth Company Baptist School hall after party group chairman Anton Lynch was allegedly attacked by fellow PNMites last Thursday.

Anton Lynch, chairman of PNM’s Moruga/Tableland party group 26, was warded at the San Fernando General Hospital after losing consciousness following an alleged beating.

He was allegedly attacked by fellow PNMites on the conclusion of a heated constituency meeting last Thursday.

“I’m worried. I just came from a whole night at the hospital,” said Lynch’s wife yesterday. “It was an unfortunate incident that occurred, and we’re hoping he’ll be alright.”

She said there has been some party support.

“Our coordinator has been in touch with me, and one or two members of the constituency executive reached out,” she said.

Lynch was among Moruga/Tableland PNMites who attended last Thursday’s annual general meeting at the Moruga Fifth Company Baptist School auditorium for the unit’s constituency executive elections. That was postponed following strong complaints from members about alleged voting “irregularities” and names not listed.

After the meeting, Lynch left the hall but told Guardian Media he was attacked and beaten by some upset fellow PNM members, prompting the police to be called.

He filed a report at St Mary’s Police Post and was sent to the Princes Town Health Facility. He was discharged after treatment and went home Thursday night.

Lynch continued feeling sick on Thursday night and “blacked out” on Friday morning.

He was taken back to the Princes Town Health Facility, where he was stabilised. After continuing head and body pain, he was sent to San Fernando General Hospital for further tests and evaluation and was still warded there yesterday.

Constituency officials said Lynch was depressed at what had happened. “He never expected people to do that to him.” Some officials said the executive election was postponed to this week.

Yesterday, they said, officials from Balisier House would be coming to meet the executive this week on the issues that have been occurring in the unit, and they expected the internal elections would be after that and party group AGMs would be sorted out.

PNM executive officials last week confirmed to Guardian Media that there would be a meeting early this week. A constituency executive official had sent a letter to PNM’s general secretary on alleged issues in the executive. The official stated that on several occasions he had raised complaints concerning the alleged conduct of a senior executive official during party group elections “which have been contrary to constitutional provisions.”

The letter claimed there was evidence from their group’s chat showing two senior executive officials “repeatedly refused to provide the necessary information to another executive officer, and that was a breach of the constitution.” The letter also stated that these long-standing party groups had paid their dues, complied with all necessary requirements, and denied their constitutional rights “due to internal conflict between executive members that could have serious repercussions” as PNM prepare for the general election.

Moruga executive chairman Anson Allen had said he did not know what the letter was about.

Police are investigating the murder of 36-year-old Kevon Frederick, a contractor of St Barbs Road, Port-of-Spain.

Frederick was shot and killed at Walke Street, Sangre Grande last evening.

Police reports say he was washing down a work area when a man dressed in dark clothing and wearing a mask entered through the gate and approached him.

The man then pulled out a firearm and several loud explosions were heard.

Checks were later made for the victim, and he was found on the ground dead.

He had several gunshot wounds about the body.

    Investigations are ongoing.

It depends on WHERE you put the "name" - you cannot have anything on the SCREEN that violate the law (tint and obscuring visibility)

Tinted (anti-glare overlay) at top is allowed to reduce glare, but i think it has to comply with tint regulations

as for his point about it passed inspection. those stickers could have been placed AFTER the inspection certificate was issued.

Further the inspection office grants or denies permits/license; it's job is not to "enforce" violations of the law, that is what the police (whiteshirts) are there for.

LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Bolivia’s President Luis Arce warned Wednesday that an “irregular” deployment of troops was taking place in the Bolivian capital, raising concerns that a potential coup was underway.

He called for “democracy to be respected” on a message on his X account came as Bolivian television showed two tanks and a number of military in front of the government palace.

Former Bolivian president Evo Morales, also in a message on X, denounced the movement of the military in the Murillo square outside the palace, calling it a coup “in the making.”

International Gun Smuggler Sentenced To More Than Three Years In Federal Prison

The DOJ said Williams entered a guilty plea on January 2, and on Monday he was sentenced to three years and one month behind bars.

    Monday, June 24, 2024

Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Carlos Mendoza has sentenced Chrissie Fier Williams (39, Kissimmee) to three years and one month in federal prison for smuggling firearms internationally. Williams entered a guilty plea on January 2, 2024.

According to court documents, on five separate occasions from January 28, 2021, through October 4, 2022, Williams prepared packages with household items to be sent to Trinidad and Tobago. Williams concealed numerous firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition inside those packages, prepared fake shipping manifests to conceal the contents, and paid “straw shippers” to deliver the packages under their names. Inside these packages, Williams concealed completed pistols and AR-style rifles, parts that could be readily assembled into completed guns, extended magazines including a 65-round drum magazine and a 100-round drum magazine, and ammunition to match the firearms being smuggled.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dana E. Hill.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
